València, April 29, 2026 – The Port Authority of Valencia (APV) hosted the meeting of the European eFTI4LIVE consortium, held on April 28–29 at the Edificio del Reloj (Clock Building) of the Port of Valencia. The event brought together more than 70 institutional, technical, and business representatives from various European countries.

This meeting, opened by Rocío Báguena, Secretary General for Land Transport at Spain’s Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, and Juan Manuel Díez, Head of Innovation at the Port Authority of Valencia, served to advance the coordination of the technological and regulatory developments that will enable the transformation of freight transport in the European Union.

Rocío Báguena, Secretary General for Land Transport, highlighted the collaborative dimension of the project, noting that “partners from 19 countries are involved, reflecting strong European cooperation.” This underscores the commitment of multiple Member States, partners, and experts in advancing the implementation of the eFTI Regulation.

As noted by the Secretary General, this Regulation is aimed at the digitalization of freight transport information to improve efficiency, transparency, and sustainability across the European Union.

Rocío Báguena also reaffirmed Spain’s commitment to the digital transformation of the sector, stating that “we are firmly committed to the digitalization of the transport and logistics chain.” In this context, eFTI4LIVE will develop and test solutions such as eFTI Gates and digital platforms to enable the seamless exchange of information between countries and modes of transport, in line with national initiatives such as the SIMPLE Platform, which will integrate logistics data and contribute to the development of the Spanish eFTI node.

During the sessions, work focused on aligning the project’s upcoming milestones, as well as defining solutions to facilitate the implementation of Regulation (EU) 2020/1056 on Electronic Freight Transport Information (eFTI).

It is worth noting that the eFTI4LIVE project is coordinated by Spain’s Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility and supported by the Valenciaport Foundation.

The consortium is composed of 55 entities, including 41 beneficiaries and 14 associated partners, from 19 European countries, including public administrations, technology providers, and companies in the logistics sector.

This meeting helps consolidate the joint work of all stakeholders involved and accelerates the implementation of the eFTI model across European corridors.

Spain’s leadership, key to the project

During the meeting, participants highlighted Spain’s leadership in this initiative focused on the digitalization of transport. They also underlined that the Port of Valencia, where the meeting was held, represents a strategic multimodal hub and a benchmark due to its significant role in intermodal transport.

Likewise, emphasis was placed on the involvement of a broad ecosystem of stakeholders, including public administrations, the private sector, and organisations of various kinds, whose coordinated participation is key to ensuring the system’s integration.

Among the expected advances within the framework of this initiative is the development of a paperless transport model, in which freight documentation can be managed and verified digitally. This shift will lead to a reduction in administrative costs and an improvement in the efficiency of the entire logistics chain.

In this regard, the eFTI4LIVE project aims to promote the digitalization of data exchange in freight transport to improve the efficiency and sustainability of the sector. In this context, the initiative enhances transparency in operations, promotes multimodal interoperability, and facilitates regulatory compliance.

Valenciaport is driving the logistics of the future

In this context, the Port Authority of Valencia continues to make progress in adapting its ValenciaportPCS platform to the requirements of the eFTI Regulation, facilitating the electronic exchange of information among the various stakeholders in the logistics chain.

The Port Authority of Valencia has emphasised that eFTI4LIVE is not only a matter of regulatory compliance, but also an opportunity to generate real value for the port community, strengthen ValenciaportPCS, improve the day-to-day experience of companies and drivers, and consolidate Valenciaport as a European benchmark in digital and paperless logistics.

This initiative is part of the Valenciaport Strategic Plan 2035, whose objective is to consolidate the Port Authority of Valencia as a leading international hub for port innovation, based on digitalization, sustainability, and the continuous improvement of its services. Finally, the sessions concluded with a visit to the facilities of the Port of Valencia.
