València has these days become the world cereal capital 2022 with the celebration of the 62nd edition of the European Commodities Exchange which has brought together more than 90 companies from all over the world and 3,000 participants related to the trade of cereals and other related products. The ports are the great allies in the international trade of this basic product for people, especially in times such as the current geopolitical situation due to the war in Ukraine.

The president of the 62nd European Commodities Exchange and Consul Major of the Consulate of the Lonja de València, Vicente Ebri, highlighted the importance of the Port of Valencia “a key element in the activity of our cereal trade since the 15th century, without the Port we would never have been able to be what we are. Without the promotion of maritime trade, the Lonja de València, a symbol of the city’s power to attract traders, would not have been possible. A strong port is synonymous with trade and wealth for its people”.

Along these lines, Ebri stressed that “the new container terminal in the northern extension of the Port of Valencia and the tunnel access are more necessary than ever so that our trade in cereals, and the rest of the products that enter and leave through Valencia, can reach any corner of the world. A new technologically advanced and environmentally sustainable terminal that reinforces the important role of the Port of Valencia for the Spanish economy, companies and citizens”.

The Consul Major of the Consulate of the Lonja de València led a delegation from the European Commodities Exchange on a visit to the Port of Valencia to see the activity of the site in situ. Aware of the importance of the port enclosures for their activity, the representatives of the most important cereal and grain exchanges in Europe agreed on the importance of this new terminal at the Port of Valencia and the projects being carried out by the PAV.

During this visit,” said Ebri, “we have noted the strategic importance and the privilege of having one of the world’s leading ports both from a commercial and sustainability point of view. We all agreed on the need for this infrastructure to continue to grow in a sustainable manner in order to strengthen the service it offers to import/export companies”.
