In addition to providing school equipment, schools have also been supplied with hygiene and health materials to support the fight against the coronavirus

València, October 12th, 2020.- 476 children from the Maritime District of Valencia have been able to start the school year a little safer, as well as better equipped, thanks to the support campaign of Aportem – Puerto Solidario Valencia. In addition to the usual delivery of school material, footwear and sportswear, carried out each year by the association of companies and institutions in the Port of Valencia, on this occasion the supply of different support material in the fight against the coronavirus has been added. In this section, the delivery of 2000 children’s hygiene masks, 40 litres of hydroalcoholic gel, paper for surface disinfection, fences, etc. has already begun.

Fight against absenteeism

The main objective of the campaign that Aportem carries out every year at the beginning of the school year is to fight against school absenteeism by encouraging children to attend classes. In addition to this objective each year, an extra effort has now been made to help ensure the safety of children.

The most relevant aspect of this initiative is the intense work carried out in advance by Aportem’s partners, with the Action Commission at the forefront, over a period of weeks. This organisational work began, as it does every year, with the collection of data on the needs of the children in each school, something that has been made possible thanks to the collaboration of the heads of each centre. Thus, the clothes or shoes are bought in the specific size of the recipient. Similarly, each student has received complete specific school materials, depending on their level of schooling.

The figures of the campaign

Thanks to this collaboration, a total of 407 cases, 1295 pens, 1,816 pencils, 1,807 erasers, 1,250 glue sticks, 970 colour boxes, 592 boxes of markers, plasticine, pencil sharpeners, notebooks, educational games, etc. have been distributed.  In the sportswear and footwear section, 418 pairs of trainers delivered, 418 tracksuits and 376 T-shirts and sweatshirts stand out.  A total of seven schools in the immediate surroundings of the Port of Valencia have benefited from this campaign.

These actions are in addition to the work carried out by Aportem during the hardest weeks of the pandemic’s confinement. During this time, Aportem has collaborated directly with more than 300 families in the Maritime District of Valencia, by distributing food vouchers or directly delivering essential foodstuffs.

Aportem – Puerto Solidario Valencia, is made up of associations, institutions, companies and individuals linked to the Valencian port logistics sector. Its action is mainly focused on the environment of the Port of Valencia, with special attention to children at risk of social exclusion.
