The awarding of the works of the container dock in the northern expansion of the Port of València, as well as the selection of the bid for the public tender for the management of the nautical-sports facilities in the northern area of the Port of Valencia were the two matters discussed at today’s meeting

The Board of Directors of the Port Authority of València (PAV) met this morning in an extraordinary mixed session (face-to-face and telematic) to deal with two matters:

1.The awarding of the contract for the execution of the works of the container dock in the northern expansion of the Port of València.

2.The selection of the bid for the public tender for the management of the nautical-sports facilities in the northern area of the Port of València (in La Marina).

In the first point, the Board of Directors has resolved to award the North Terminal works to the UTE formed by Acciona Construcción, S.A. – Jan de Nul NV – Grupo Bertolín, S.A.U., in its variant offer.

The new container terminal at the Port of València will be an infrastructure that will combine technology, eco-efficiency, multimodality and sustainability, offering an optimal service and maintaining the interoceanic character that guarantees connectivity with markets on five continents. Furthermore, it will be an infrastructure that will generate employment and boost the economic activity of its hinterland and will reinforce the status of Spanish ports as European benchmarks in the Mediterranean arc, allowing the business fabric to maintain its competitiveness in this global world.

This infrastructure, which will be located in the sheltered waters of the northern expansion whose works were completed in 2012, will have an area of about 137 hectares and 1,970 meters of berthing line, with a capacity to accommodate up to five million containers. The terminal will feature state-of-the-art design, technologies and equipment, with a fully electrified facility, allowing it to serve the large container ships in service, with high yields in both maritime and land operations.

In the second matter, the one related to the ‘Public tender for the adaptation and exploitation under administrative concession of the nautical-sports facilities in the northern area of the Port of Valencia‘, the Board of Directors of the PAV has proposed to award the commitment of UTE Serveis Marítims Port Eivissa, S.L. and OCIBAR, S. A. the administrative concession for the Adaptation and Operation of the nautical-sports facilities in the northern area of the Port of València (in La Marina), in the land and waters defined in Condition 3 of the General and Particular Conditions and in accordance with the Basic Project presented in its offer.

Prior to the concession, the company will submit its proposal to the process of public information and official reports, in accordance with the provisions of paragraph 6 of Article 86 of the Consolidated Text of the Law of State Ports and Merchant Marine.

With today’s decision of the Board of Directors of the PAV dispels the uncertainty about the continuity of one of the core activities of the Consortium Valencia 2007, thus avoiding any harm to current users of the facilities, and the first steps are taken for the enhancement of this area of nautical-sports uses of Valencia, in perfect harmony with the environment. Likewise, any doubts that the European Commission and other community bodies that were willing to execute a sanction to the Kingdom of Spain are cleared.

  1. a) The term of the concession will be 35 years, extendable with up to a maximum of two successive extensions of 8 and 7 years, respectively.
  2. b) Investment: 84,820,348.93 €.
  3. c) The purpose of the concession is the adaptation and operation of the nautical-sports facilities in the northern area of the Port of Valencia and includes the provision of the following services:

– Management of the mooring posts.

– Maritime control service.

– Fuel supply to vessels.

– Supply of water, electricity, telephony and data transmission.

– Vehicle parking service.

– Selective garbage and waste collection.

– Development of training and educational activities and support to nautical sports in the field of nautical sports, such as sailing courses in its different variants.

– Organization of events and sports competitions and cultural activities.

– Boat launching and repair services, especially aimed at providing a comprehensive service to the users of the facilities.

– Commercial services such as the operation of commercial premises, leisure and/or catering, or offices.

The proposed management of moorings will improve productivity and competitiveness, and will increase the presence of both large, small and medium-sized vessels. All this without neglecting to attend to boats of a social nature, with the construction of a dry marina to attend more adequately to this type of smaller boats.

The project contemplates 370 moorings in the inner dock (from 12 meters to 130 meters in length), 74 moorings in the north dock (from 24 meters to 115 meters in length) and 227 moorings in the south dock (from 6 meters to 40 meters in length).

In the project’s dry dock, the capacity of the proposed lifting and launching machinery will cover vessels from 10-15 meters in length up to 60 meters. In addition, there will be a dry marina capable of accommodating 228 vessels up to 8 meters in length.

For the land part, facilities capable of accommodating the productive fabric, offices – which already exist in the inner dock – and spaces dedicated to nautical training, research, commercial and catering and leisure are contemplated.
