• The Port Authority of Valencia will invest €6.9 million in its own telecommunications infrastructure
  • The project, co-funded by the European Union through the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) programme, will enable the connection of more than 25,000 devices

Valencia, 24 April 2026.– The Port Authority of Valencia (APV) presented its security project for port communication networks at IGNITE, the event held on 14 April at the Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid. During the event, Valenciaport presented the use case developed in collaboration with Orange Empresas to strengthen the protection of its future private 5G network.

The presentation, given by Javier Gallego, Head of Technology at the APV, explained the key features of this strategic infrastructure, awarded to Orange for €6.9 million and co-financed by the European Union through the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) programme. Valenciaport’s 5G network will enable the connection of more than 25,000 devices — including vehicles, sensors, drones and cameras — and will provide the port with its own telecommunications infrastructure that is flexible, secure and tailored to its operational needs.

In this context, the APV has outlined the cybersecurity architecture associated with the project, which is based on a dual firewall barrier, a Zero Trust strategy and advanced detection and response tools. The proposal positions cybersecurity as an essential and cross-cutting element of port digitalisation and as a key component in ensuring trust, operational continuity and the protection of critical communications. This forum has highlighted the importance of Valenciaport as the Mediterranean’s leading logistics hub and one of the key drivers of international trade in southern Europe, a strategic position that will be further strengthened by the roll-out of the new private 5G network, designed to ensure the port’s competitiveness, security and operational efficiency in the coming years.
