- Sagunto will be the starting point for vehicle distribution across the national Spanish territory and some European destinations
- The Board of Directors has also agreed to revoke the passenger terminal concession granted to Puerto Natura Valencia, a subsidiary of Balearia
- Aurelio Acedo has been confirmed as the new managing director of the APV
Valencia, 12th of November 2025 – The Board of Directors of the Port Authority of Valencia (APV) has agreed to grant an administrative concession to Toyota Logistics Services Spain for the operation of a freight logistics terminal dedicated to the loading, unloading, storage, sorting, control, custody and transfer of new Lexus and Toyota vehicles at the south quay of the Port of Sagunto.
The approval of this concession was one of the issues discussed at the Board of Directors meeting, which also ratified the appointment of Aurelio Acedo as the new managing director of the APV, following the departure of Enrique Belda at his own request. Acedo holds a PhD in civil engineering and has a long career at the APV, where he worked in the operations department.
This concession makes Sagunto an intermodal logistics hub for Toyota, where vehicles from its various factories will arrive for national and international distribution, with rail playing a very important role due to the proximity of the Mediterranean Corridor.
The Sagunto facilities will distribute to both the Spanish market and other European and Mediterranean destinations, such as Portugal, France, Italy and Malta.
Revocation of the concession granted to Puerto Natura
On the other hand, the Board of Directors has agreed to revoke the concession granted to Puerto Natura Valencia SL – a subsidiary of Baleària – for the operation of a passenger terminal. Valenciaport has taken this decision in order to rethink the distribution of the docks included in this project, taking into account the changes in traffic, the manoeuvrability requirements of new ships and Valenciaport’s connectivity with other ports. These are all aspects that have evolved significantly since the initial plans were made for the area originally granted to Puerto Natura.
The latest manoeuvrability reports commissioned to increase the degree of realism of the scenarios analysed highlighted the need to take additional technical considerations into account to ensure safe operations.
It is necessary to rethink the entire passenger traffic area and carry out improvements to the docks in order to provide the best service to customers, taking into account the correct integration between the port and the city at all times.
Expansion and improvement of control facilities
The Board of Directors has also given the green light to an agreement authorising the use of certain APV spaces by the Valencia Tax and Border Unit and the Valencia Provincial Maritime Service. These facilities will be used for the prevention and prosecution of smuggling, border and port facility security, customs area control, public safety, illegal immigration, nature and environmental conservation, and fisheries control and inspection, among other functions.
One of the facilities is a 2,335-square-metre building located within the Port of Valencia, where another 802 square metres, located in the vicinity of the Real Club Náutico de València, will also be made available to the Civil Guard’s Maritime Service. In Gandía, the facilities being made available cover an area of more than 198 square metres, located near the south exit, while in Sagunto, a 330-square-metre warehouse located on the central quay esplanade is being made available.
