Luis Guillermo Plata has seen at first hand the operation and functioning of the Port of València.

The director general of the PAV, Francesc Sánchez, detailed the programmes being developed within the framework of ‘Valenciaport 2030, zero emissions’.

The Colombian delegation showed interest in the digitalisation and training projects.

The Colombian ambassador in Spain and former Minister of Trade, Industry and Tourism, Luis Guillermo Plata, visited the facilities of the Port of València to learn at first-hand about the operation and functioning of the port activity. During his visit, the diplomat was accompanied by the general director of the Port Authority of València (PAV), Francesc Sánchez, who explained the projects being developed by Valenciaport to move from an eco-efficient port to a completely green port.

The general manager of the PAV detailed to the Colombian delegation the strategy ‘Valenciaport 2030, zero emissions’ and explained the initiatives being carried out to achieve this objective. The ambassador was also pleasantly surprised by the digital progress made by the port community in recent years, due to the creation of technological platforms such as ValenciaportPCS. For his part, Luis Guillermo Plata offered the collaboration of the embassy and consulate of the Colombian country for the development of projects and business.

Valenciaport is the great bridge that links Spain with Colombia in goods transactions. During 2021, the Port of Valencia handled a total of 424,911 tonnes of goods with Colombia, of which 326,578 tonnes originated from or were destined for the Port of Cartagena de Indias, the largest in the country. Ceramic products, chemicals, other non-metallic minerals, cement and clinker, machinery and wines are the main products exported from the Valencian docks to the South American country. Meanwhile, imports from Colombia are concentrated in foodstuffs such as cane or beet sugar, chemical products, and canned food.

In addition, during the meeting it was recalled that in 2020 the master’s degree in Port Management and Intermodal Transport of the PAV was taught for the first time in Colombia. This academic degree, which is managed by the Valenciaport Foundation and is a degree of the Universitat Politènica de València, has the support of the National Association of Businessmen of Colombia (ANDI).
