Valencia, 27 march 2026 – Valenciaport has started the work on the development project for the office complex of the Port Authority of Valencia (APV), as well as the Fishermen’s Market and “Tinglado 5” at the Port of Valencia. To this end, it has put out to tender the design of this project, which aims, amongst other things, to improve accessibility in the area.

The planned works will serve to reorganise the road layout and create pedestrian routes, as well as to improve the lighting, landscaping and street furniture in the area. In this regard, the aim is to ensure both the functionality of road and pedestrian access and the public use of the area to be developed.

The proposal must ensure the continuity of the cycle lane and pedestrian access from the passageway area, and all works must be planned with the aim of designing spaces that comply with accessibility regulations.

Work carried out in a protected environment

This project will be carried out in the vicinity of areas designated as requiring special protection, such as “Tinglado 5”, which forms part of an architectural complex designated as a Site of Local Importance and is part of the city’s maritime heritage.

The shed area at the Port of Valencia stand as a living testament to Modernist industrial architecture, built between 1911 and 1914 as part of the ambitious General Plan for the Expansion and Improvement of the Port, spearheaded by the engineers José María Fuster and Fausto Elío Vidarte. These iron structures, decorated with a multitude of ornamental elements, were designed to store booming agricultural goods such as oranges and rice, reflecting the export boom of the time.

The importance of the port-city relationship in the Strategic Plan

These works are part of the vision outlined in the Strategic Plan of the Authority of Valencia, where the port-city relationship is positioned as one of the priority areas of action. Beyond its role as a leading international logistics hub, Valenciaport embraces its role as an active player in the urban, social and economic development of the region. In this regard, improvements to access routes, integration into the surrounding landscape, the creation of more permeable spaces and the optimisation of mobility are all part of a model for an open, sustainable port that is connected to its surroundings. These development initiatives not only reorganise and modernise the port area, but also help to strengthen urban cohesion, boost economic opportunities and advance environmental and sustainability commitments.
