València, 26 May 2025.- The Port Authority of València (PAV) dedicates the month of June to the environment and does so with the help of Mafalda. Quino’s creation will be one of the main protagonists in the exhibition ‘Consciència en verd’, a graphic exhibition in which various international cartoonists participate and which combines irony, humour and information on real actions in sustainability. From 2 to 29 June it can be visited free of charge in the Clock Building from 11 am to 7 pm.
With this exhibition, the PAV invites visitors to reflect on the fragility of the natural environment through the humorous cartoon characters. For Ester Medán, art historian and curator of this exhibition, ‘it is important to highlight that the protagonist of half of “Consciència en verd” is Mafalda, as it is a creation by Quino that is already 60 years old and in which the theme of protecting the planet and environmental awareness was fundamental. This makes Quino a pioneer in the fight for environmental protection’.
This is not the first time that the PAV has used the characters of Quino and other cartoonists to help raise awareness of everyday actions and reconsider how they affect the environment. The environment has become the transversal axis of Valenciaport’s activity, a strategy promoted with the aim of achieving climate neutrality in all its activity.
Recycled art workshops
In parallel to the exhibition, the PAV has organised educational workshops in the Clock Building with the aim of informing young people about its commitment to environmental care and the importance of reducing carbon emissions. Aimed at students from 5 years of age and with the aim of stimulating the imagination, raising awareness of the environment and having fun as a team, the aim of the workshop will be to make a collage and a mask – based on two illustrations by Quino – using different elements collected from nature and recycled.
The workshops will be held next to the exhibition hall between 11.30 and 13.30 on the following days: 6, 8, 10, 15, 17, 22, 25 and 29 June. The groups will be of 25 students and to make reservations please send an email to: [email protected]
