Playing is one of the first ways we understand the world. We explore, imagine, learn and share through play. Toys, as everyday as they are universal, not only awaken childhood memories, but also speak to us of innovation, effort and creativity.

The Valencia Region has historically been a benchmark in the toy industry. Its toys have travelled across the seas and have reached every corner of the world, consolidating a strong export industry.

The Port of Valencia has played, and continues to play, a fundamental role as a gateway for Valencian production to international markets, favouring business growth, the generation of employment and global industry projection.

This exporting vocation is what has led the Port of Valencia to promote the exhibition ‘Juguem? Redescobrim els nostres joguets’ (Let’s play? Rediscovering our toys) as a tribute to the toy sector, which has been key to the economic and social development of the territory.

The exhibition has offered a journey through the history of this industry, with special attention to regions such as Foia de Castalla, known as Toy Valley, and town like Ibi, Biar, Castalla and Onil and Dénia, international toy references.

From the early 20th century, the toy industry was a demographic and economic engine for these areas and played a prominent role in boosting employment for women, who were the main workforce in many of these factories.

Beyond their economic and social impact, the exhibition has compiled toys that have accompanied different generations, with pieces ranging from the beginning to the end of the 20th century. A journey that has allowed us to rediscover the evolution of play and creativity over time.

The Port of Valencia has hosted this exhibition in recognition of all the people, companies and communities who have contributed to building the future of the Valencia Region through play and industry. The exhibition was complemented by educational workshops, allowing visitors to learn about the history and values of the territory through popular games, encouraging social interaction and the development of physical and cooperative skills.
