The course, which is part of the “Train for Trade” program organized by UNCTAD, is aimed at middle managers from the port community of this Asian country. 

Valencia, May 2nd 2017. – Juan Manuel Díez, Head of Control and Planning of the Port Authority of Valencia has imparted the module “Economic and Commercial Management” which is part of the course “Modern Port Management” in Davao (Philippines). The course, which is part of the “Train for Trade” program organized by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), was attended by 24 representatives of the port communities of the Philippines.

The Course, which has been conducted jointly with instructors from the Philippines Port Authority (PPA) and Cebu´s Port Authority (CPA), has focused on explaining the economic and commercial management of ports. During the module, it has been shown the need to streamline the port management by developing a commercial strategy that allows customers to preserve current and attract new ones.

Although the Philippines is part of the English-speaking network of the Port Management Program of UNCTAD, this agency has wanted to have the presence of the PAV (which manages the Spanish-speaking network) to provide this module, which is mainly directed by Irish port experts.

Collaboration between PAV and UNCTAD  

The Port Authority of Valencia collaborates with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in port training programs since 2001. In 2007, both entities signed a collaboration agreement for the development of the Port Train Training Program Train for Trade in the Spanish-speaking developing countries which has included actions such as technical assistance missions to Latin American countries and seminar celebrations in Valencia and Gijón.
