Sagunto, April 25 2017. – The port of Sagunto ended the first quarter of the year with a total traffic of 1,747,813 tonnes, up 16.58% compared to the same period in 2016. Except for solid bulk, all kinds of goods increases, especially cars and container traffic. In particular, car traffic grew by 0.91% to a total of 59,717 vehicles, while container traffic rose by 28.20% to 13,069 TEU.
Containerised general goods went up by 42.52% to a total traffic of 124,882 tonnes. Conventional general cargo, on the other hand, rose by 28.10% to 739,637 tonnes. This increase was mainly due to steel products, which increased by 32.26% to 609,000 tonnes; and vehicles and its pieces, which grew by 27.32% to 106,000 tonnes.
Liquid bulk increased by 9.51% to a total of 712,019 tonnes. This was driven by the results of goods such as natural gas, which grew by 10.39% to 651,000 tonnes; and chemical products, which rose by 38.65% to 51,000 tonnes.
Conversely, solid bulk, with 167,316 tonnes, decreased by 7.20% compared to the same period in the previous year. Natural and artificial fertilizers grew by 49.55% to 70,000 tonnes; and cement and clinker went down by 26.26% to 36,000 tonnes.
