Valencia, August 4, 2026 – Valenciaport’s private 5G Standalone (SA) network, , which will enable the development of technological solutions aligned with the growing operational complexity of Valencia’s port facilities, is currently in the technical implementation and infrastructure deployment phase. To date, 6 of the 17 telecommunications towers planned under the project have already been installed.
This telecommunications infrastructure represents an investment of €6.9 million (VAT included), 75% co-financed by the European Union through the Connecting Europe Facility – Digital (CEF Digital) programme.
Once operational, the Port of Valencia will have its own secure, flexible and dedicated telecommunications infrastructure.

The objective is for the communications network to be independent of conventional operators and adaptable to the needs of the logistics sector. Thanks to this technology, it will be possible to connect more than 25,000 devices – including vehicles, environmental sensors, drones and security cameras – without relying on cables or being tied to third parties.
More than half of the planned towers have already been installed
Regarding the physical infrastructure, the fibre optic ring that forms the network’s transport backbone has already been completed. In addition, the radio access network deployment is now visible across the port area: of the 17 planned telecommunications towers, 6 have already been fully installed and erected, while the remaining towers are at advanced stages of construction, assembly or preparation for equipment installation.
From a technical perspective, work is already underway on the radio equipment, with the radio access network currently being deployed alongside other key components, including the network core and the platform’s cybersecurity infrastructure.
At the same time, work is being carried out with the network’s end users through a series of workshops, during which the port’s operational teams are sharing their needs, ideas and practical experience. This collaborative process is helping to validate the proposed solutions in real operating environments, adapt developments to day-to-day port operations, and ensure that the use cases ultimately deployed deliver tangible value from the outset in terms of both safety and operational efficiency.
Sustainability at the Port
The deployment of the 5G network will reduce the need for cabling and vehicle-based inspections by enabling the use of drones and IoT sensors. This digital transformation will optimise resource use, reduce emissions, and further strengthen the port’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
The solution will incorporate the highest cybersecurity standards, together with dual perimeter firewalls and network segmentation, ensuring the protection of data and critical communications. The project also includes the use of augmented reality for remote maintenance and advanced training, enabling real-time technical assistance and enhancing the training of operational personnel.
