Valenciaport is presenting at Fruit Logística, the fresh produce trade fair being held between 8th and 10th February in Berlin, the latest developments for a strategic sector for the Port of Valencia and its area of influence. The Port Authority of Valencia (PAV) has a space within the stand of Puertos del Estado where it is exhibiting the characteristics and high added value services of the Valencian precinct for the agri-food industry with the aim of consolidating a logistics hub around the cold.
The Valenciaport team, represented by Mar Chao, head of Commercial and Business Development of the PAV and Cristina Rodríguez, head of Commercial and Clients of the APV, is promoting the services and operations offered by Valenciaport to exporters and importers of refrigerated products and highlighting the connection of the Valencian precinct with more than 1,000 ports around the world.
During 2022, the Port of Valencia handled more than 3,000,000 tonnes of fruit and vegetable products such as fruit, citrus fruits, vegetables, tubers, meat products and fish, among others… Of the total number of tonnes, 50% were goods in transit, 35% were exports from Spanish producers and 15% were imports. China, the United States, Saudi Arabia, Canada, South Korea and Brazil are the main destinations for these products leaving the docks of the Valencian precinct. Imports come from markets such as China, Peru, India, Brazil and Senegal, among others.
At the fair, Valenciaport is promoting all the logistics aimed at the traffic of perishable goods, a key sector for many Spanish industries that use the docks of the Valencian precinct to bring in or take out their goods. The APV applies a 30% discount for fruit, vegetables, meat and frozen and refrigerated fish in reefer containers with a minimum traffic requirement of 1,000 TEUs.
At Fruit Logística, Valenciaport is presenting its role as a hub at the service of reefer product companies, thanks to the hundred or so regular services with the five continents for perishable traffic, which enables access to many more markets, cost reduction and competitive improvement for these companies.
The Port of Valencia has 3,250 connections for refrigerated containers, specifically, the CSP Iberian terminal (Cosco) has 1,500 reefer connections, APM (Maersk) has 750 while MSC Terminal has 1,000 containers dedicated to these products. In addition, the PAV is promoting intermodality with the railways, which is reflected in the companies’ commitment to increase the presence of rail services for refrigerated traffic.
In addition to these infrastructures, there is the Agro Merchants Group warehouse, which has 16,000 m2 devoted exclusively to the logistics of refrigerated products, and the 17,000 m2 Border Control Post (PCF) which, through the Guarantee Mark, guarantees that any container taken to these facilities must be checked in less than 45 minutes. In addition, there is also the PCF at the Port of Sagunto.
