Valencia, May 18th 2017. – Valenciaport hosted today the first port call of a vessel belonging to the Japanese shipping company MOL, operated under the alliance “The Alliance”. This alliance, which stands for Transport High-Efficiency, is made up of five companies: the German shipping company Hapag-Lloyd, the Japanese MOL, K Lines and NYK Line, and Taiwan’s Yang Ming Line. The vessel “MOL Charisma”, consigned by Transcoma, has docked at the Llovera quay and plans to make 900 container movements in the port of Valencia. It is planned that weekly, vessels of this alliance will carry out two regular port calls in the port of Valencia, with boats between 8,500-15,000 TEUs of capacity.
Although MOL works regularly in the port of Valencia, it is the first port call that this company has carried out since this alliance began operating at the end of last year. On the occasion of this event, the Port Authority of Valencia has delivered a commemorative plaque to the vessels captain. The event was attended by Miguel Marín Sales Manager of APM Terminals, Manuel García, Transcoma operations department, Manolo Rodríguez, PAV´s shipping director and the ship’s captain.
Manolo Rodríguez, PAV´s director of shipping companies, said: “The port of Valencia is a trans-oceanic port with more than 1,000 connections in the world and therefore it is among one of the preferred ports between large shipping companies.” For his part, Miguel Marín, APM Terminals Sales Manager highlighted the commitment of the terminal with the alliance in terms of service and guarantee of berthing and stressed that “this is the first alliance that will work in the APM Terminals Valencia with commitment and guarantee of mooring window, with fixed days and schedule regularly on Thursdays and Fridays of every week.”
The MOL Charisma is a vessel of 300 meters in length, with a depth of 11.5 meters and a capacity of 8,500 TEUs.
