• The experts who participated in the 3rd Workshop of the Valenciaport Chair of Port Economics PAV-UV do not see threats to international trade, but they do see a series of uncertainties that will not affect all countries or all economic areas of the world in the same way

València, 26 February 2025.- The effects on supply chains that are already beginning to occur due to changing socio-political environments, protectionism and environmental and demographic impacts have been the focus of the papers presented at the 3rd Workshop of the Valenciaport Chair of Port Economics APV-UV (Port Authority of València-University of València) held on Tuesday at the headquarters of the Institute of International Economics of the University of València. However, if one word had to define and summarise what was said there by the different experts, it would be ‘uncertainty’.

‘The concept of uncertainty does not necessarily carry negative connotations; uncertainty is inherent to any business or market activity. In fact, the maritime and port sector can be taken as a successful model of ‘working in uncertainty’. In recent years it has been able to overcome global crises of the greatest magnitude, such as COVID, the Red Sea Crisis, the war in Ukraine, etc.’, said the Chair’s director, Vicente J. Pallardó.

Under the title ‘Supply chains and ports facing the new global scenario: challenges and opportunities’, the conference evaluated the challenges and options posed by the new and changing international context and its implications for international trade and ports.

The presentation of the Conference was made by the Vice-Rector for Innovation and Transfer of the UV, Rosa María Donat and the Head of Innovation of the PAV, Juan Manuel Díaz, who highlighted both the relevance of the topics to be dealt with during the Conference and the fruitful collaboration between the two institutions which has allowed the creation of the Chair three years ago.

Under the moderation of the Chair’s director, three speakers of recognised prestige gave their presentations during the conference. The papers presented at this III Workshop of the Valenciaport Chair of Port Economics PAV-UV will soon be available on the website of the Chair sponsored by the Port Authority of València (PAV) and the University (UV).
