The pier was built by the Sierra Menera Mining Company between 1975 and 1977 to increase the mineral loading capacity of larger vessels. It was equipped with a conveyor belt system and a loading machine with an arm capable of reaching a distance of up to 27.2 m, with an average loading capacity of 2,000 t/h.

Additionally, five hoppers were installed for bulk unloading. Four of these hoppers were manufactured in 1984, three years before the mining company ceased its activity. With a capacity of 50 m3, self-propelled with an electric motor and pneumatic wheels, they were in service until 1993. In 2022, during the emergency dismantling works of the pier’s deck, the five hoppers and the Conquest MB1 pontoon were moved ashore.

One of these hoppers has been relocated to the new Sagunto promenade, which has been open to the public since 19 July 2024.
