Port Authority of Valencia and Valenciaport Foundation are designing a master’s degree in port logistics for the University of Cartagena de Indias.

The master degree, which is being developed jointly with the Universitat Politècnica de València, will begin to be taught in 2017 and will have an official degree issued by the UPV itself.

The development of this new master degree was born from a request from University of Cartagena de Indias that seeks to respond to the academic and professional needs of the Colombian port sector. In this sense, the planned program will link subjects covered in the Masters in Advanced Engineering of Logistics Production and Chain Supply of the UPV and in the Masters in Port Management of the Valenciaport Foundation. The master degree, which will combine online and face-to-face training, will have two different types: one for professionals in the sector, of duration of one year, and another for obtaining a two-year duration doctorate. Likewise, it is foreseen that students enrolled in the master degree travel to Valencia to learn in firsthand about the activity carried out in the port of Valencia.

International Training

This new master degree comes in addition to the internationalization of the training offered by Port Authority of Valencia and Valencia Foundation. Specifically, in 2000, PAV signed an agreement with the Inter-American Ports Commission of the Organization of American States that has allowed, up to the date, that 37% of the participants in the Port Management Master come from Latin America.

In 2007, the Master in Port Management was taught in Panama and, later, in 2013, was held in Barranquilla (Colombia). Currently, it has also being working to impart this title in Ecuador and Mexico.
