València, April 8th, 2022.- The Port of Valencia is the perfect ally for Spanish exporting companies. This was made clear by the presidents of the Chambers of Commerce of Madrid and Valencia during the meeting they held with the Port Authority of Valencia. Both representatives agreed on the priority of having a large port, connected to all corners of the world and efficient in its operations, which allows companies from all over Spain to be more competitive and generate greater economic activity.

The president of the Official Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services of Madrid, Ángel Asensio, has assured that the Port of Valencia “is a very important infrastructure for the Spanish economy and fundamental for the companies of the community of Madrid, both for their exporting and importing work”. Asensio visited the port of Valencia, accompanied by his counterpart from the Chamber of Valencia, Jose Vicente Morata, where he held a working meeting with the president of the Port Authority of Valencia (APV), Aurelio Martinez.

During the meeting, the head of the Madrid institution has known the actions that Valenciaport is carrying out in new port infrastructures, railway accesses and decarbonisation projects.  For the president of the Madrid Chamber of Commerce, “one of the keys for Spanish companies is export, and for this we have very important allies such as the Port of Valencia, an international hub for goods arriving or departing to any corner of the world”. In this sense, Asensio pointed out that the new container terminal in the northern extension of the Port of Valencia “is necessary for it to be much more operational, have greater capacity and increase opportunities for exporting and importing companies, and continue its position as a hub of international reference”.

Along these lines, the President of the Valencia Chamber of Commerce, José Vicente Morata, stressed that “the Port of Valencia is one of the main factors of competitiveness for exporting companies from Madrid, Aragon, Navarre, the Basque Country and the regions of the Mediterranean and central Spain, which allows connectivity and costs that make our products much more attractive abroad”. For Morata, “exporting companies are those that innovate, that generate quality and lasting employment and, therefore, an infrastructure such as the Port of Valencia is not only necessary, but is essential for the development of our economy”.

The delegation from the Madrid Chamber of Commerce visited the port facilities where they toured the breakwater of the northern extension and the southern counterdike. In addition to the president of the Madrid institution, the deputy managing director of the Madrid Chamber of Commerce and director of the International Department, Elsa Salvadores, and the advisor to the international department, Carmen San Emeterio, were also present. They were accompanied by the president of the PAV, the assistant to the presidency, Manuel Guerra, and the head of Business Intelligence of Valenciaport, Manuel García.

Port of reference for companies in Madrid

The representatives of the Madrid chamber of commerce were able to see the daily operations of the Port of Valencia, through which 40% of the export/import traffic of the Spanish port system is handled. “It is a very efficient enclosure where containers enter and leave quickly and this makes companies more competitive and reduces costs, as the time factor is fundamental”, said Asensio. “We act as prescribers among the Madrid companies of the Port of Valencia, the reference enclosure that offers the business fabric a total guarantee of accessibility, ease and excellent management for the goods to enter or leave towards their final destination”, the president of the institution pointed out.

Valenciaport is an eminently commercial port that is connected to 1,000 ports around the world where the main shipping companies operate. It is the leading European port in terms of container traffic in the Mediterranean and the fourth in Europe after Rotterdam, Antwerp and Hamburg. During the meeting, the traffics of Valenciaport and the mixed nature of the Port of Valencia, which combines loading and unloading operations with transhipments, were explained. The projects in the field of decarbonisation and the fight against climate change within the framework of the Valenciaport 2030 zero emissions objective were also presented, actions which include, for example, the commitment to the train. Madrid is the main point of origin/destination for rail traffic in the Port of Valencia, with 80% of total rail transport, a rail connection which will be strengthened in the coming years with projects such as the rail motorway between the Valencian precinct and the Spanish capital.
