The Port Authority of Valencia (PAV) welcomed this morning the closure of the “Train for Trade” program, organized by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

During the closing ceremony, chaired by Aurelio Martínez, president of PAV, Laureano Lourido, president of the Port Authority of Gijón, and Mark Assaf, head of the Human Resources Development Section of UNCTAD, highlighted the importance of Human training to improve the competitiveness of ports, as well as to maintain links between ports.

This edition of the “Train for Trade” program, which has been given in Spanish since 2007 and which includes the PAV and the Port of Gijón, has been attended by representatives of the public and private sectors of the port communities of Argentina, Peru, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Venezuela and Bolivia.

During his speech, the president of the PAV thanked the President of the Port Authority of Gijón for their joint work and involvement in the project and emphasized the honor of hosting a course whose purpose was “to help boost the competitiveness of Ports through training programs for trainers “. In this sense, he has highlighted training as a “key element” for development, and ports are strategic pieces for that growth. He added that the PAV has the obligation to “strengthen this service and offer companies their hinterland because it is the only way to achieve sustainable growth in the long term. Our mission is not only to offer services to the companies of our environment, but to enhance that environment because we play the development of our country. “Aurelio Martínez also stressed the obligation of any port to establish relations with other ports “because it is the only way that companies can access to those markets.” Martinez also stressed that the importance of this type of programs lies in the need to train people as the main value of companies, to promote cooperation and ties between ports, or to provide tools for ports to become more and more competitive.

The President of the Port Authority of Gijón and the head of the Human Resources Development Section of UNCTAD thanked the PAV for welcoming them, congratulated them on the high level of the trainers and asked the participants who transfer the perfection during the program in their professional environments.

After the speeches, the representatives of the six Latin American countries have collected certificates attesting to the training received during these days in Valencia.
