| Valenciaport starts out from an already solid position. Nevertheless, to consolidate its leadership it must face a series of new tendencies and challenges among which the following are of special importance: From the demand side: - Dynamic growth in the demand for transport. - Importance of logistics as a key factor for competitiveness and business growth. - The requirement of frequent, fast, safe and economical door-to-door transport services. From the supply side: - New generations of progressively higher-capacity vessels and the gradual concentration of shipping companies. - Appearance and expansion of global port operators. - Expansion plans of competitor ports. On the regulation side: - European policies for sustainable development in transport. - Promotion of intermodalism and short sea shipping. - Construction of the Trans-European Transport Network into which ports will be fully integrated. - Liberalisation and higher competitiveness among transport services, including both intra- and inter-port services. - Evolution towards a more advanced Port Authority, managing infrastructures, coordinator and guarantor of service competitiveness while driving marketing actions and port, technological, intermodal and logistics development. |
